January 6: Figure drawing, the figure in art- gesture drawing- learning how to capture movement using basic shapes, students will take turns posing
Life Drawing- Still life- FIRST: gesture drawing practice, SECOND- working with a new material: pen and ink wash- working with value Due Friday January 13th:HW: one still life sketch of objects set up at home - can be a loose gesture drawing or you can practice working with value (lights and darks created by shading) OR have a friend/ family member model for you and make a figure drawing
Week of January 16-20 Georgia O'Keefe media exploration- chalk pastel
- write info in notebook about O'Keefe- What were the subjects of her artwork? Who were important influences in her life?
- begin chalk pastel- one large flower, touching 3 sides of the paper- explore value, the lights and darks Due Friday January 20th- still life drawing
class critique of work: using the Elements of Art and Principles of Design, name one strength of the student's work and one suggestion or idea to try next time, general feedback from Miss Cat
Week of January 23rd-27th Exploration of Pointillism- Georges Seurat *please bring a piece of fruit or flowers to class. These can be artificial or real.
Monday- finish class critique of still life

Monday- look at examples of Pointillism- experiment with this technique using the subjects of still life
Friday January 27th- finish Pointillism experiment, begin student choice pointillism project- You may use a picture from your phone or the internet (cite your source on the back of your work), from a magazine or from one of my drawing books.
Week of January 30th- Friday February 3rd Due Monday January 30th- completed Pointillism experiment Due Friday February 3rd- completed Pointillism independent project Due Friday February 3rd- classwork/ homework : one drawing of a figure in action- add shading and detail to your drawing- you can use a personal photo or something from the internet ( a favorite sports figure?)
*Begin Greek vase study- In what ways do the ceramic vases of Ancient Greece reflect Greek culture and society? THIS IS AN EXTRA PROJECT FOR STUDENTS WHO HAVE COMPLETED ALL OTHER WORK
February 6th- initial drawings for printmaking project February 10th- transferring figure drawings to foam plates and adding some kind of background February 13th- NO SCHOOL February 17th- Printing the foam plates
You will make FIVE (5) prints total. Write your name on the back of each paper neatly in pencil before you begin. As soon as you finish each print, put it away IMMEDIATELY in the drying rack.
1. Make a test print. Do you need to adjust anything on your plate?
2. Make THREE(3) prints with black ink on white paper. TWO are YOUR CHOICE of watercolor or marker for the background. DO THIS BEFORE YOU PRINT. Paper must be dry before you print on it.
3. Make ONE(1) of Black ink on colored paper
4. Make ONE (1) with colored ink on colored paper * You must wash and dry your plate if you have already used the black ink
For Final Grade:
4 prints due: must include one with colored ink and one that has been changed somehow with colored pencil or marker

Poster or Slide Presentation: - Cite your work from at least 3 websites
- information on the following areas: birth and death dates, place of birth and general background information on your artist - photo of your artist - what techniques and mediums did your artist use? (example: oil painting, collage, painted wood sculpture, book illustration) - Art History connection- what style/ movement is your artist associated with? (example: Surrealism, Expressionism) - images of 3 different artworks made by your artist with titles - Poster and slide show should be neat, colorful, and the information attractively presented - if making a Google Slides presentation, there should be at least 7 slides including the title page and a bibliography page
Oral Presentation: information stations- 11 stations set up at a time- the presenting group will stay in their area presenting about their artist to each person who stops by. The students who are not presenting will choose 4 presenters to visit and fill out the Presentations Worksheet.
Art piece: Time to make a piece of art based upon your artist or an artist from one of the presentations- you can copy the artists work in a different medium or if it’s a sculpture you could make a drawing, or you can use the artist’s idea to make a similar piece.
